We Had Amazing Conversations

My father used to get excited when I came home from university for Christmas. He’d stock the kitchen with snacks and take me out to dinner and we’d have amazing conversations. I enjoyed these visits, but for Dad, it was extra special. He was aging and having his son home seemed to revitalize him.

My son serves in the military and lives in another state. We talk regularly on the phone but it’s not the same as being together. He came home for the Christmas holiday. My wife got his room set up with his favorite snacks. We went out to dinner. We had amazing conversations.

Now I understand what my father felt.
